Norwood cosmetic surgery center offering antibody testing – WLWT Cincinnati

A Norwood facial plastic surgeon is offering antibody testing to staff and patients. Dr. Jon Mendelsohn is the owner and medical director of Advanced Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center in Norwood. The practice was shut down for weeks during Ohio’s stay-home order and reopened Friday.Mendelsohn said the office immediately implemented safety changes to protect staff and patients.”There are things like keeping the doors propped open, mask availability, hand sanitizer, taking patient temperatures, and then the flow of our practice in terms of opening up more exam rooms so that we don’t have to keep people waiting in the lobby,” Mendelsohn said. “Those are some things that we had to give a little thought to.”The practice is requiring surgical patients to be tested for COVID-19 prior to undergoing surgery. Surgical patients are prescribed a COVID-19 nasal swab test, that is done at one of the testing sites in the area. The test must be performed 72 hours before the patient’s scheduled procedure, then the patient is asked to quarantine at home for the three days leading up to their appointment to avoid contracting the virus during that time period. “As facial plastic surgeons, we’re operating in the head and neck area, so we are close to patients,” he said. “We want to protect our team so that we’re infecting other patients along the way.”Mendelsohn knew there would be a lot of interest in antibody testing. He started offering rapid antibody tests to staff members Tuesday. Patients can be tested
